Womb Journey

There comes a moment when a woman may begin to hear a call from within. Sometimes it is a quiet curiosity, a longing to know herself more deeply, or a feeling that there is something within her body asking to be heard. Sometimes the call is much louder, arriving through an experience that asks her to stop, turn inward and pay attention.

The reasons for beginning this journey are many. Painful menstruation, pelvic pain or tension, disharmony with the menstrual cycle, fertility challenges or concerns with the reproductive system may bring our attention to the womb. For others, the doorway may be pregnancy, birth, loss, motherhood, sexuality, relationships, perimenopause or menopause. And sometimes there is nothing that needs to be fixed at all — simply a desire for deeper connection, greater self-knowledge, creativity, pleasure or spiritual exploration.

When we speak of the womb, we are not speaking only of the physical organ. We also speak of the womb space — the inner space within and around the womb and pelvis that we can connect with through our awareness, sensations, emotions, imagination and energetic practice. A woman who no longer physically carries a womb can still have a relationship with this space. The organ may no longer be there, but the place it once occupied — and the personal, emotional, symbolic or energetic connection to it — can still be honored.

The womb is a portal of transformation. She lives within the cycles of creation and release, beginnings and endings, holding and letting go. When we bring our awareness to this space, we create an opportunity to meet what is present within us and to notice what may be changing. We can listen to what wants our attention, what may be ready to soften or be released, and what is waiting to emerge.

The womb is also a centre of creation, life force and inner flame. Creation does not only mean creating a child. We give birth to ideas, dreams, relationships, art, businesses, boundaries, new directions and new versions of ourselves. There are times to create and times to rest, times to hold and times to release. Our inner landscape is constantly moving through these cycles.

This is why the womb journey is an endless one. There is no point at which we have learned everything there is to know about ourselves. We change, our bodies change and our lives change. What we discover in our womb space today may be very different from what we meet there years from now. We can return to the same place again and again and hear something new, because we are no longer the same woman who arrived there before.

Much of life teaches us to understand through the mind. We analyse, gather information, search for explanations and look for solutions. This has its place, but the body offers us another way of knowing.

The womb journey invites us to travel inward and listen through the body — to sensation, emotion, intuition, rhythm, desire and stillness. We do not always need to immediately understand or explain what we find. Sometimes the practice is simply to become present enough to hear.

It is a journey of returning to ourselves, again and again, through all the seasons and thresholds of being a woman.

The womb is not simply somewhere we journey to. She is a portal we journey through — a place of transformation, creation and return.

With blessing and love on your journey,

Shir xx
